Rick Chow was found not guilty in the 2023 sh**ting d*ath of 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton, and now the conversation has shifted toward the defense attorney who helped deliver that verdict.
Chow, a South Carolina convenience store owner, was accused of sh**ting Cyrus in the back after wrongly suspecting him of stealing water from his store. Prosecutors argued Cyrus was running away and never threatened anyone, while the defense argued Chow believed he was protecting his son during the chase.
Now people are reacting not only to the verdict, but also to the role of a Black defense attorney who delivered a strong closing argument for Rick Chow in a case that already had major racial tension. Some people are calling him a sellout, while others are saying he simply did his job and exposed weaknesses in the prosecution’s case.
