Here is a short video showing how to use a picot gauge. One of my patterns (the Criss-Cross Snowflake) calls for using a 2cm gauge for the long crossed-over picots. This is the centre of this snowflake.

I am making one of the small rings which is 3ds, picot, 3ds, 2cm picot, 3ds, picot, 3ds.
