Luigi cloud sideflips to a Green Star in 5.38 seconds [IGT, 353 frames].
If cloud long jumps break the game horizontally, cloud sideflips break it vertically.
Combining the y velocity of a sideflip with momentum of a cloud forming, the initial velocity is 42 - a normal sideflip is 32 by comparison.
Sideflips also have a horizontal advantage, nearly reaching the same speed of a regular long jump.

Cloud sideflips are instant sideflips, performed by holding Z (which would be pressed to cancel the cloud-creating spin and land earlier) and holding the direction opposite Luigi's facing angle and pressing A before landing.
After getting the Cloud Flower and forming the first cloud, I had to go neutral before landing to keep running speed to be able to long jump early.
For the first cloud sideflip, I held the direction of the facing angle before holding opposite and pressing A - this ensured I would have virtually 0 hspd so I wouldn't fly backwards, away from the star. However, this also dropped initial y velocity by a couple of units so there may be some room for improvement here.
The second sideflip was a full one, getting as much velocity as possible to get up to the star without spinning.

This is a proof-of-concept of a new strat that gets a rightward lava wall boost to start the skip, and also gets a second coin to allow for an extra lava boost for faster travel across the Whomp platform.
Even unoptimised, this strat saves at least 1.2s over the original strat of getting a downwards boost and no extra boost near the end.
The strat should have a faster way to get the first boost, as well as a way to catch the gravity without having to pull back earlier on (this was done to not overshoot the quick gravity change that happens before the main one, which is a key part of being able to pull back onto the lava for an extra boost).

Branching off at the end of the slide, a harder right turn was made to go down the right-hand path. There could be improvement down this next slide, as I made avoiding the first and second structures more twisty than it probably needed to be.
The spiral was interesting to optimise, as going along the inside would appear to be faster, but making a lighter turn to go along the outside of the bend turned out to be faster, due to the speed gained from the steeper slope.
Jumping onto the launching rail was faster than rolling into it, but jumping later than I did wouldve been a frame slower.
I learned something interesting from the last bend: you can get stuck and slowed down by the brown rails, but at the end, youll get an extra burst of speed, so you dont lose time (and may even save time over a longer stretch) but you get the added bonus of the slowdown helping you turn harder down the slope.
The slowdown in this last section helped to be able to roll all the way to the star without having to jump, and the boost made sure no overall speed was lost, saving at least 0.2s.

Mario races against time across the castle in 0 A presses.
A big part of this video is it is coinless: its possible to get through the normal wheel route 0xA but (currently) only by getting coins to replenish health for more firebar boosts around the wheel.
2P could make coinless normal route easy too by freezing the firebars while holding A, making it 0x + 0.5x.
A lava boost at 0:24 or 0:29 wouldve been faster than the spins, but I liked the spins for just messing around with movement. It also made the timer tight at the end for added fake tension.
I grabbed the starbits for testing out the normal wheel route; starbits are helpful for moving Goombas about to bounce on them.

It works because the waterboxes are wider than the walls and can be entered on their edges.
I had to slow swim up the wall at the start of the OoB because spins in any direction would bonk and either fall out of the water or clip back inbounds.

Luigi megasideflips up waterfalls to collect a star in 2 A presses.
This is a clean up of the 0.5x that was previously needed to get the shell up to the chest, and get up to the wall before the first sling star using a Cataquack.

The shell issue was dealt with by outswimming it to the surface, jumping out of water by shaking the controller, and bouncing off the shell as it comes up.
The wall was improved by bringing a Cataquack to the waterfalls as Ice Luigi and forming an ice panel on the wall that can be stood on once the Ice Flower runs out. From here, you can spin to the wall and wallkick up to the sling star.
The next part is interesting. What wasnt known when making the spliced 2.5xA video nearly two years ago was that the megasideflip here has, as far as we know at the moment, some strange requirements.
If you skip the sling star (which currently isnt possible without an extra A press), you can do a megasideflip straight away.
However, if you take the sling star, you cant do that, possibly due to tilt or the cameras resting position. Instead you have to get another Ice Flower and then form an ice panel on the wall.
The farfetchedness of this means it shouldnt really be the case, but so far weve failed to get a megasideflip without doing this first, despite jumping with the same angles and positions. Needs more experimenting.
So I had to spin over to the purple Piranha plant, defeat it for the Ice Flower, and then backwards spin back over to the main platform in order to make an ice panel.
With this set up, I was able to megasideflip up to the next sling star.
For some reason, hitting a Goomba mid-air with an ice spin makes Ice Luigi bounce up (but not like a normal bounce), so you can bounce off it again.

This is based on the in-game timer, which stops during the life counter scene.
This branched off the Secret TAS up to the first swing.
I tried a few strategies for the first walljump section, and in the end, the strategy used ended up 0.5s faster than the generally used strat.
Bounce off the Goomba, get as much height from it and a spin, and then use a bit of neutral walljump strain to get up onto the ledge with enough speed to long jump.
The long jump takes a while to come back down, so its faster to spin, but the spin doesnt land on the next ledge enough to instantly backflip, so a walljump and a quick spin is faster, getting onto the ledge with the Bee and backflipping without needing to spin up to the higher ledge.
I didnt try many ideas in the next section, but was happy with what turned out, with sideflips getting warped up by the flower platforms to be high enough to get onto the clouds without landing inbetween them.
A crouch spin knocked the wall at the start of the next section, which grabbed the lower part of the vine slightly faster than just dropping or jumping down.
Not much was tried out in the bouncy section.
I didnt realise that spinning allowed you to turn on poles faster, so theres some improvement to be had with that one pole.
In order to squeeze between the copter enemy and the wall, I had to press A on P2 before targeting the enemy so that P2 would jump up and be a bit closer to the enemy.
Then I managed to get an angled walljump off the wall (not really sure how) so that it would go up in the small gap between the enemy and wall, and push through. This saved 0.6s seconds.
Then there was the OoB. The vines move towards the camera, so if you reach them where theyre outside the 2D restriction, you can go past them. This allows you to fly all the way to the final section. However, theres invisible collision that prevents you from getting into the section, and because you are still restricted by 2D, you cant move left or right.
But P2 can grab the checkpoint as the camera pans around, so you can die and respawn in the section. You no longer have Bee suit, so you can move through the section much faster.
This saves 6 seconds over going through normally with Bee.
However, if you dont go for OoB, you can just take damage to lose Bee suit and go faster, which is the fastest strat.
Just as with Supermassive GS3, the checkpoint strat is slower than the fastest strat in real time, by 1.02s, but it is faster for in-game time, by 0.98s.

After Nemi43 found the remount technique in The Perfect Run (https://youtu.be/H5WwNh_GIwg), people theorised using it for other levels including this one.
Really_Tall suggested it to me on my Yoshi Star GS3 TAS as well, but from what I had tested back then, I couldnt get enough distance out of the first flutter to make it, and couldnt get the first-frame jump either. It didnt look like it would be faster, either.
Happy to prove myself wrong, though, with a better understanding of backwards speed after redoing The Perfect Run. Still dont understand the factor that lets you jump after remounting but it happened here.
Need to optimise both this and normal route but its looking like this would save 5 or 6 seconds in Any%. Maybe 2 or 3 in Greens? Its hard to tell from the Comet Medal detour.
This is on a new file so its got Mario, cutscenes, and Yoshi dialogue.
