I demonstrate a jump that can let you reach the only coins in SM64 Die Lavahölle that were previously considered impossible. This jump appears to involve a precise angle, a decent longjump speed spacing from 47 to 48, barely avoiding a ledgegrab, a first-frame wallkick, masterful straining to keep building speed efficiently, and a groundpound with a 1 frame window. Nevertheless, I could see it being done with savestates on a joystick; for keyboard this star still seems impossible.
The coins were considered impossible because the intended strat (youtu.be/D6PIKKyeKBA ) requires taking 4 slices of damage, but since reaching the top takes 2 lavabounces and there's only 1 red coin at the top, there isn't a known way to take those 4 slices of damage and survive.
