This is a Tool-Assisted Superplay/Speedrun (often abbreviated to "TAS") where a player can edit, rerecord, and manipulate a game into doing whatever that person desires. Visit tasvideos.org for more information.
This setup is designed to significantly simplify going for good Diglett scores, which require precise positioning and aim.
Instructions:
1) Skip the cutscene, hold R, and then press C-left after crashing into Electrode.
2) Pause on the correct frame, release R, and hold Z. You can use Haunter, the phone, and various other visual cues to tell. Note that due to random lag, there can be a tiny variance with positioning, so it doesn't always look exactly the same.
3) Press A on the first Diglett as you pass by.
4) Turn a bit left before the second Diglett and press A on the correct frame. Due to random lag that can affect positioning, I would suggest turning fairly late, at least past the phone.
Note that going for 960 size Diglett requires precision such that adjusting your X-axis by 1 unit in either direction does not get the score. For context, there are cases where moving a few units makes no visual difference in the game. Because of how frames in Pokemon Snap work due to being 30 FPS and not 60 FPS, you also need the correct set after unpausing, which results in the correct animation frame only half the time.

This setup is more of a template as Dugtrio is too complicated to have a purely instructional type of setup. There are multiple frame-perfect adjustments, lag is a factor, and everything has to be precise for high scores. However, roughly using this setup can still lead to top scores and even world records.
Instructions:
1) Skip the cutscene, hold R, and crash into Electrode. Then press C-left and hold Z.
2) Press pause on the correct frame and release R. If you are slightly off, you can still re-adjust later, or lightly tap R if you were early.
3) Take a picture of the first two Digletts.
4) Press C-left to be facing directly left, release Z, and throw a pester ball at Pikachu. Be sure to throw it late or it will recover too quickly and block your shot later. If your pause was late, you may not be able to stop Pikachu with any throw timing.
5) Hold Z and take a picture of the third Diglett and the first two Dugtrios.
6) Press C-left twice, release Z, wait the correct number of frames, then press C-right and hold Z. You can adjust the timing on when to release Z in order to be more ahead or back for the shot relative to when you paused earlier, but you need a specific amount of time with Z released so that you move to the side by the correct amount.

This TAS achieves the highest possible score for Magmar! While real scores a bit lower arent too uncommon, squeezing out the remaining few points is incredibly difficult. The shape of Magmar doesnt really fit two of them well, its challenging to get both to be large enough, luring them is precise, and their claws stick out which tends to block the view of each other or reach to the edges of the picture.
