Former Army chief Peter Leahy says “tanks save lives” and Australia should be helping Ukraine “as much as we can”.
Mr Leahy’s comments follow the Australian government announcing the gift of 49 battle tanks to Ukraine.
“Anyone who has been in the military would tell you that tanks save lives, and we want to save Ukrainian lives,” Mr Leahy told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“They’re in the fight of their life over there and fighting against the autocratic Russia, they are fighting against the illegal, immoral invasion, and we should be helping them as much as we can.”
