Sky News Australia | ‘Kick in the guts for Jewish Australians’: Major Bank forgets Jewish holidays @SkyNewsAustralia | Uploaded October 2024 | Updated October 2024, 21 hours ago.
Sky News host Erin Molan has slammed Commonwealth Bank after its employees received a newsletter which failed to mention two Jewish holidays.
Ms Molan said it referenced Diwali, Christmas, Chinese Lunar New Year and Ramadan but had no mention of “Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur”.
“Strange, given the references to all the other religious occasions,” she said.
Ms Molan said she reached out to Commonwealth Bank, with them saying “It was an error not to acknowledge Rosh Hashanah and we apologise for this oversight. A number of our people took time off to observe the Jewish New Year and Yom Kippur with their families, and we extend our thoughts and best wishes for these important occasions."
“Now I know in the big scheme of things this might not feel like a big deal - but regardless of the intent it's just another kick in the guts for Jewish Australians. Was the Commonwealth Bank worried that mentioning these days might have offended other staff?” Ms Molan said.
