Dr. Davis has questioned Dr. Carrier's assertions, mainly targeting his expertise and interpretation of Jewish messianic concepts. A key point of contention revolves around whether such a Messiah concept existed before Christianity's emergence. To support his stance, Dr. Carrier has cited several experts, including Dr. Daniel Boyarin, whose scholarship has sparked heated criticism from Dr. Davis.
