Description: The video recording of RIC 2025 Technical Session: T5 - Data and Artificial Intelligence in Action: Balancing Innovation and Safety. Artificial intelligence (AI) has quickly become a transformative force across industries. In this session, panelists explored the data and AI lifecycle and discussed how AI reshaped both the nuclear industry and the NRC. Attendees heard how the NRC and the nuclear industry tapped into data and AI to improve regulatory tools and create smarter, more accessible applications. Panelists discussed real-world examples of developing foundational models to support the drafting of regulatory documents and implementing smart search capabilities. They also shared how the nuclear industry and its partners, both in the United States and internationally, trained large language models using the NRC’s Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) data for specific applications. In addition, panelists discussed their own best practices for addressing common challenges related to data and AI.
