Loose steering? Lots of steering free play, side to side movement? The steering column is badly designed. So today I decided to drill a hole in it and bolt it with a low grade zinc bolt. Steering columns are designed to collapse so that they do not impale the driver in an accident. that is the purpose of the slip joint. But in this case there is much too much play and both the steering column and steering rack are only several years old. Replacing the parts did not fix the problem. There seems to be a design flaw. Maybe if you baby the parts they won't develop play. But I use my van andsimply replacing the parts did not fix it. There has always been this ridiculous amount of play side to side in the steering wheel. Today I finally fixed it.
