A fire at a vacant South Salina Street building is renewing questions about how Syracuse handles problem properties before they become fire scenes.
The owner of 1021-1027 South Salina Street owes the city and Onondaga County nearly $20,000 in back taxes and penalties, according to Syracuse City Auditor Alexander Marion.
Marion says the tax delinquency is significant because it can be one of several warning signs that a vacant property is becoming a larger problem.
