In this installment of the Synth Dictionary series, Modulation is a key feature of any synthesizer and is a way to process your audio effects. Modulation is the feature responsible for making your sound change over time. It adds movement and depth to the sounds you create and keeps things sounding fresh and dynamic.
On SK2 and After Dark, the LFO knobs (found towards the bottom of the unit) change the speed of the Low Frequency Oscillators; the MOD knobs control how much modulation is applied to the oscillator's inputs; and the MOD attack knob controls how quickly the Modulation Envelope ramps up. Turning the knob clockwise ramps up the envelope slowly, while turning it counterclockwise ramps up the envelope quickly.
