The next installment in our Synth Dictionary series is the Oscillator, a basic function that can be found on every synthesizer. The oscillator is the primary sound source that generates raw waveforms on your synth. It forms the fundamental sound of your track, providing the base pitch, timbre, and frequency that you can then sculpt with other effects (like filters, modulators, and amplifiers, which we'll tell you more about in our next Synth Dictionary installments).

On SK2 and After Dark, the oscillator button is labeled "OSC" and can be found at the bottom middle of your unit, in between the "CTRL" buttons. Pressing the OSC button cycles through the 16 types of different oscillators available on the SK2 and the After Dark.
