You know she was the best in
spittin' confessions
colder than Lowell and Olds and Sexton
patron saint of manic depression
Bell Jar always in descent

She's hazardous, like Lazarus
went down three times, came back to us
distinction with the asterisk
that her Pulitzer came after death

And yeah I savor the flavor
of both her early works and later
but the Ariel poems should come with a waiver
'cause that shit made me an English major

Still new poems I'm discoverin'
she's the baddest witch in the coven
had the hardest bars in the oven--
oh.
