"Sylvia" is an instrumental number recorded by the Dutch progressive rock band Focus. Originally called "I Thought I Could Do Everything On My Own, I Was Always Stripping The Town Alone", the tune was written with lovelorn lyrics in a cabaret style, to be sung by Sylvia Alberts. However, Alberts said the song just didn't work. When the band released it as an instrumental, they decided to rename it Sylvia as a teasing reminder to Alberts of a missed opportunity.
On this tune, Jan Ackerman's unique style and melodic guitar work really stands out over Thijs van Leer's rapid paced organ.
