"Thought that you'd escape The Reaper, You can't escape the Master Keeper"
I was writing a song about dying, when I noticed that everyone who writes or sings about death, dies ... and usually tragically.
In 1979, Randy Rhoads brought his Les Paul and a practice amp to an audition for Ozzy Osbourne. Randy played a few riffs and Ozzy said "Fuck yeah, you've got the gig."
In 1980, the album Blizzard of Oz included Suicide Solution with lyrics about not being able to escape the reaper.
In 1981, Ozzy's second album with Randy, Diary of a Madman, included "Flying High Again".
In 1982, Randy boarded a plane flown by their tour bus driver who was high on cocaine. The plane crashed killing the pilot, their makeup artist and Rhoads. He was 25.
Side Note: I quickly reworked the theme of my tune to be about returning home through space and time (totally not dying). I then dropped the lyrics and turned the melody into a guitar instrumental. That should be safe (youtu.be/1FuUKGrjEGY)!
