So, this is the first song I've translated in a while. Or at least, the first one I've actually gone out of my way to make subs for, anyway. Given the time lapse between them, it was kinda humbling to both see how far I've progressed and how much further I still have to go.
This song is by a local Shiga Prefecture band that I randomly heard in a CD store one day and fell in love with. Go support them! youtube.com/channel/UCRLIaMMJWBQD1Hetrs_Lqzw
For whatever reason, this song is basically schizophrenic. It's filled with so much over-the-top Japanese internet memes it took me a while to figure them all out (and I probably still missed some). The song itself goes back and forth from the crazed ramblings of an internet user and a coherent story.
Some random translation notes for those of you interested in that sort of thing...
メシウマ is a shortened version of a longer phrase 他人の不幸で今日も飯がうまい, which means "Through the misfortune of others, my food for the day has become much more delicious". Given there was no short way to say that, I chose to go with the German term "Schadenfreude".
ヤンデレ is a familiar term to most geeks who speak Japanese. It describes a character archetype where a character falls in love with someone and then becomes crazy. I tend to describe it as the "If I can't have you, no one can!" type.
OD(・_;)!!!! is the way the phrase "oh my god" was printed in the lyrics. I assume it's something net-related, which is why I went with "OMG".
ロンパッパ is apparently some 2ch (the Japanese site where we got the idea for 4chan from) lingo. It describes an ASCII art character that people post when they're so sure they're going to win an argument that you might as well not bother trying to beat them.
There is a lot of random rambling going on in the background of the song, some of which was really hard to pick out. I even asked the person I know whose Japanese I consider the best and he didn't get all of it. I originally was just going to leave it all out, but since it seems related to the lyrics I did my best to include it.
Anyway, enjoy!
