I've spent some time to figure out exactly what is going on in this song. It sounds simple, but there are some really interesting harmonies and styles going on here, like the almost oriental sounding melodies in the bridge. As usual, I find Amy Lee's second voices to almost be more interesting than the lead melodies in this song as well. She truly created a vocal style fitting to lead the gothic rock genre!

--- Lyrics ---
It's true, we're all a little insane
But it's so clear
Now that I'm unchained
Fear is only in our minds
Taking over all the time
Fear is only in our minds
But it's taking over all the time
You poor sweet innocent thing
Dry your eyes and testify
You know you live to break me
Don't deny sweet sacrifice
One day
I'm gonna forget your name
And one sweet day
You're gonna drown in my lost pain
Fear is only in our minds
Taking over all the time
Fear is only in our minds
But it's taking over all the time
You poor sweet innocent thing
Dry your eyes and testify
And oh you love to hate me, don't you, honey?
I'm your sacrifice
(I dream in darkness
I sleep to die
Erase the silence
Erase my life)
Do you wonder why you hate? (Our burning ashes
Blacken the day)
Are you still too weak to survive your mistakes? (A world of nothingness
Blow me away)
You poor sweet innocent thing
Dry your eyes and testify
You know you live to break me
Don't deny
Sweet sacrifice
--- About The Band ---
Evanescence is an American rock band founded in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1995 by singer/pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody.[1][2] After recording independent albums, the band released their first full-length album, Fallen, on Wind-up Records in 2003. Fallen sold more than 17 million copies worldwide and helped the band win two Grammy Awards out of seven nominations, as well as scoring number six in CBS's "Top Bestselling Albums of the Last 10 Years" (2008). A year later, Evanescence released their first live album, Anywhere but Home, which sold more than one million copies worldwide. In 2006, the band released their second studio album, The Open Door, which sold more than five million copies.[3]
The line-up of the group has changed several times: David Hodges left in 2002, co-founder Moody left in 2003 (mid-tour), bassist Will Boyd in 2006, followed by guitarist John LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray in 2007, and Terry Balsamo in 2015. As a result, none of the band's three studio albums feature the same lineup. The latter two changes led to a hiatus, with temporary band members contributing to tour performances. Billboard ranked Evanescence number 71 on the Best Artists of the Decade chart.[4]
