Ordering some fast food for delivery? Sutter Home would suggest then that you crack open a bottle of wine even before the food gets here and enjoy your own little piece of the good life while the delivery boy races to your house.
Around this time the American wine industry got the idea that in order to increase their sales, they could try to expand the appeal of wine. In essence, they were trying to capture joe six pack and try to convince him to try some wine instead of beer once in a while.
This commercial shows one example of how they were getting this message out. Instead of just drinking wine on special occasions, why not have some with the kind of food you eat every day? And what could be more plebeian than getting delivery? I suppose the next steps would have included wine bars sprouting up in mall food courts.
As of 2011, fast food is still not associated with wine in the United States.
This ad aired during a showing of Entertainment Tonight on KRON on October 23rd, 1997 after the Baseball World Series on NBC (KRON was NBC at the time).
