EBRD and donors help APU Dairy and local farmers adapt to climate change
Across Mongolia’s vast steppe, one of the world’s last nomadic cultures still moves with the seasons. But for the herders, keeping pace with the changing climate and its effects is not so easy.
That’s why the EBRD is working with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and APU Dairy, one of the country’s largest dairy companies, to help more than 1,700 farmers adopt new technology and learn the market skills they need in order to be more resilient and strengthen their herds.
At the same time, APU Dairy is expanding its processing plant, acquiring new packaging lines and making its milk sourcing arrangements more efficient and sustainable, all with the EBRD’s help. Under the Bank’s Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF), it is also making its operations greener.
The upgrades and technical assistance are supported by Canada under the High-Impact Partnership on Climate Action (HIPCA)*, Japan and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
