In Vancouver, British Columbia, safe houses for youth on the street provided a lifeline, keeping them away from harm and from drifting into a life of drugs and crime. When short- sighted government officials moved to close the houses as part of a budget-cutting exercise, youth in them formed a coalition to write and perform a play. Surviving In the Cracks follows their efforts and challenges along the way. Interwoven with scenes from the theatre project are personal stories of childhood experiences that pushed them into life on the street.
