This is a story of redemption, perseverance, and intense hordes of mosquitoes. Julie and I head down to Fairplay, Colorado where we set out on a 12 mile backpacking trip with our two dogs. But this isnt our first attempt.
Two years ago we set out on the very same trail, with the very same dogs, only to find ourselves ill-equipped to hike in 3+ feet snow drifts. We made it less than 4 miles before we had to make camp, sleep it out, and return home the next morning. Soaking wet, blistered, tired, and defeated, we vowed to one day return and overcome this tragic failure!
Now, older, wiser, and a little flabbier, we are embarking on this journey again. And we WILL succeed! We’ve done our research, we have the right gear, and of course, it’s July. So there isnt any snow this time.
