“Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” Psalms 91:3-4
We continue our expository sermon series on the 91st Psalm.
The 91st Psalm is a THREE PART dialogue involving the voices of the individual who trusts in God, the learned instructor of the Word, and finally of God Himself.
We do not know for certain who penned the psalm. The ancient doctors consider that when the author’s name is not mentioned, we may assign the Psalm to the last named writer; and, if this indeed be so, this is another Psalm of Moses, the man of God.
Verses 1-2 — The Declaration of the Faithful Believer
These verses are a declaration of faith and trust in the faithfulness of Almighty God.
Verses 3-13 — The Psalmist or Wise Teacher
In these verses we learn the benefits and blessings of trusting in God. The faithful believer abiding in the Secret Place of the Most High is assured deliverance, provision and protection, and the wicked are assured of judgement.
Verses 14-16 — God Promises His blessing
In these verses, God speaks directly to His people, and confirms the promises made in the psalm to those who have set their love upon Him, and who have placed their trust Him.
