“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance . . .” Galatians 5:22-23
The word fruit here is the Greek word karpos, which is where we get our phrase carpal tunnel. The carpal tunnel is the passageway in the wrist through which the median nerves and tendons of the hand travel. Even so karpos is the mechanism through which that which is in the heart of a tree comes forth and is seen. What is inside is made manifest in the fruit.
The Bible says that a tree is identified by its fruit. When the Holy Spirit dwells within, we will bear the fruit of the Spirit.
In this passage, the Greek word for gentleness is chresto’tes, which carries with it the idea of kindness, or, being kind. “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32
The true Christian should bear this fruit of kindness.
