Remember when I played the Smash Bros. Melee Opening about a year and a half ago and made a music video for it (if not, just check my channel trailer vid lol)? Well, another Pixel Mixers contest has come around where the theme was title themes, so I knew I just had to bust out another great Smash Bros. opening cover with a special video.
I'm unironically a fan of Smash 64 since I have so many good childhood memories of playing this on the Nintendo 64 and since it's such a fun game in the modern competitive scene (I main Kirby lol). I especially decided to do this theme since I could only find one other piano cover of this fast-paced opening (and it didn't have sheets ;-;), so I decided to give it some of that DS Music piano love :D Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

The prelude to the finale of a year of piano...
Over the course of this entire year of learning piano, Ive been sporadically attempting accomplish a goal I had set back in last summer: learn at least one song from every Final Fantasy game and/or Piano Collection and Piano Opera. Ive gotten close: So far Ive gotten a few from FFVII, one from FFV, FFIX, FFXI, FFXIII, FFXV, FFXIII, and FFXIII-2. Ive also had plans to continue with learning songs from the other games, since the OSTs from all the Final Fantasy games are all gorgeous in their own right, and I wanted to pay homage to the musical genius of Final Fantasy with this project. Hecc, I even wanted to open the next year of piano covers with Liberi Fatali (the opening to FFVIII) from the FFVII-IX Piano Opera.
However, it just doesnt seem like itll come to pass. My Final Fantasy videos always get mixed to negative results, and you guys seem to prefer watching piano covers from other games rather than FF. Dont get me wrong, thats completely understandable to me. Just with this in mind, I think this cover may be the last Final Fantasy thing Ill do for a long time.
While this may be the Prelude to Final Fantasy XIII (and no, its not the original prelude from the first FF :P), this mysterious, emotional, and grand piece gives off the vibe of the culmination of all the adventures experienced throughout the franchise. And so to end off my series of FF covers for the year, I thought that this song would be a fitting send off to a project that has taught me a lot as a pianist and as a musician over this year.
IDK how many of yall will bother to watch this video, and how few of those people will want to read this entire wall of text description, but thank yall to those few that stuck with me through every final fantastical piano cover Ive done (you know who you are :D).
But dont worry, this is only the penultimate video for the year, as the next video will be a grand finale that will hopefully blow all your feathers um ahem I mean socks off! Stay tuned!

After the amazing reception to my “Precious Heart” cover from Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha ft. The Consouls (thanks again SO MUCH to Maximilian Dood for the kind words and shares on the vid!), I thought another classic fighting game tune would be fitting to follow it up. And what other fighting game track to cover/remix than the “this is tuna and bacon” track, aka “This Is True Love Makin’” from Capcom vs. SNK 2.
Since the track already has a pretty boppin’ groove on its own, I wanted to take the classic house elements of the original and bump them up with a more modern future funk style in the vein of artists such as Moe Shop, Yung Bae, and Flamingosis. But in order to do that I needed just a few more instruments, so thankfully this group of top tier musicians came to the call! Both Mohmega (from my Mario Kart Wii Bowser’s Castle cover) and Music on the D Lo (from my MAGFest 2020 Dave & Danny Chill Show set) are familiar faces with plenty of funky chops, but Lacey Johnson is a fresh face to the channel who’s been killing it recently in VGM. I swear she has to have doppelgängers or something cuz I don’t know how she’s managed to put out so many banging tracks and collabs recently. So huge thanks to all these musicians for helping set the stage for the largest EDM-style track I’ve made since my Tokyo Daylight remix from last year. I’m really proud of this final product and hope there’s something exciting in store for every listener.
This year was a heccin’ roller coaster ride, from my co-op to all the recent world events, but one thing that has stood out to me through it all is all the amazing collabs I’ve had the honor to be a part of or put together. Each of the collab tracks are some of my favorites from this last year, and I’ve learned so much musically from each and every one. So to Tyler Jenkins, RichGC, Hashel, Ro Panuganti, Justin Levine, John Stacy, Cyril the Wolf, ChaoticMeatball, TeraC, Eric L, Kube, Frostbite, Soundole, The Consouls, and everyone in this vid, thank you! It means a lot to be able to work with and build such a passionate community in these isolating times.
Since I won’t be able to use my piano for the next few weeks, this will be the grand finale to Year 6 of DS Music. I know y’all are waiting on that Top 10 Zelda Songs Medley, but we haven’t reached 10k subs yet! Maybe if we can hit that milestone, the grand opening to Year 7 will be that :D But for now, this is the last hurrah for the summer and I’m glad to have made this musical genre with all of you watching.

So uhhh I can explain why theres randomly a video out in the middle of the day on a Thursday. I follow this VGM-cover-sharing site called GameGrooves which just last afternoon put out a #QuickfireCoverChallenge where they challenged artists to make a one-take cover in just 24 hours. Since my piano vids suit that criteria very nicely, I was wondering what song to pick and then remembered that Ive been itching to play this tune!
Ever since my cover of Another Rain from Halo 3: ODST came out (which has been absolutely exploding on Spotify thanks to you guys!), Ive been looking for more opportunities to cover Halo soundtracks. A friend on a co-op I was working at suggested Warthog Run from Halo 3 (a tune very similar to this), and Ill probably come back and try my hand at that rendition sometime in the future! But for now, I decided to keep it basic and learn this iconic main theme. With less than a day to work on this, Im pretty proud of how the end result came out!
Ill still be releasing a video on Saturday, so stay tuned for that. Its been pretty crazy recently so get ready for some crazy music videos coming up!

You never saw it comingggggggg
So yeah Joker got unveiled in Smash just two days ago and released (to the Nintendo servers dismay) yesterday, and after many internet delays we finally got him. I personally thought he would be released on Easter, so imagine my surprise when I was just in the middle of Linear Algebra homework and the Smash Ultimate update 3.0 trailer dropped! After that, I knew that even with only a day and a half to do it, I needed to cover a Persona song.
Ive been wanting to cover Persona 5 music ever since Joker was first revealed at the game awards. The funky vibe of the series compliments the art style of the Persona series spectacularly. Ill be doing more in-depth covers eventually (like hopefully Life Will Change and Tokyo Daylight to name a few), but for the short time frame I had, Aria of the Soul (also known as Poem for Everyones Soul and also Hymn of the Soul ahhhhh) has both a deceptively simple melody yet a powerful persona to it (hahaha get it). Special thanks to great anime pianist Theishter for this arrangement, make sure to go check him out in the links below!
I havent played any Persona games yet tho, but hopefully Persona 5 will come out on Nintendo Switch so I can enjoy it as much as I enjoy Joker in Smash Bros Ultimate and all the cool features of the 3.0 update. Hope you enjoy this piano cover of the Velvet Room music, Aria of the Soul from Persona 5 (and Persona 4, and Persona 3, and I think Persona 2...)!

Heres a classic piano tune that every street pianist ever has in their repertoire :P I love Peanuts (havent watched it in a while tho) and Ive known how to play this song for a long time, so I thought it was worth showing yall what little personally touches I add to this song to give it the DS flavor ;)
