Here's a long awaited series of videos: Super Mario Bros. X on the PC. It may also be Super Mario Bros 10, if X is a roman number...anyway :)) It's a fan game and a very good one I might add: it's actually a compilation of several games on several consoles, like Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 and 3 on NES, Super Mario World on the SNES, Legend of Zelda and Metroid ! You can play as 5 different characters: Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Peach and Link - yes, Link from Legend of Zelda ! Mario, Luigi and Toad are identical outside their appearance - they just run, jump and can shoot fireballs if they collect the fire flower. Princess Peach can hover in the air after jumping by holding down the jump button and Link can use his sword to fight enemies, as well as to smash blocks. Like in Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World, there's a map screen where you travel from level to level and where you can change characters by hitting "Esc" and then pressing left or right to cycle between them. You can also go back to a level you already cleared if you want to collect more coins or get powerups again, since they respawn. There are 8 worlds, represented by 8 islands, each with a distinct theme (overworld, Yoshi's Island, Hell, etc). The last level of each island is a boss fight - either Birdo from SMB 2 or a Koopa-Kid from SMB3 - and the last level of the game you fight Bowser, obviously. The levels have no timer, much like SMB 2, so you don't have to rush, which is a good thing, as some levels require some puzzle-solving. The coin system works the same as always: every 100 coins awards you with an extra life. The powerups are also the same familiar ones: there's the mushroom, fire flower, leaf, tanooki suit and hammer suit, though the last two are only found in a few levels and even then they're hidden pretty well. One item that's missing is the invincibility star: I've only seen it like once or twice in the entire game, which is odd, because in the original SMB they are all over the place, usually hidden inside invisible blocks. It doesn't matter too much, because the other weapons are plenty, making it easy to survive. The difficulty is appropriate for a Mario game and it increases gradually as the game progresses, which is how it should be. There should be a balance between challenge and fun - this game is mostly fun. Sure, there were some annoying levels which seemed to last forever and kicked my ass, but this is actually what keeps the game from getting too easy and once I got past those, it gave me a huge sense of accomplishment and success. The same thing can be said about Bowser: at first he's a tough bastard and he seems impossible to beat, but with practice and patience you'll finally defeat him and feel on the top of the friggin' world. So that's about it. It's a very enjoyable title that will certainly appeal to everybody out there, even if they're not hardcore fans of the Mario Bros. or have never played a Mario game - you can pick this one up and play it right away. One last thing I need to mention is that I had lots of copyright issues with this walkthrough because of the soundtracks in certain levels - the videos got removed many times, so to prevent that from happening, certain portions of the video have the audio altered - I do apologize for that, but it was the best I could do to post the videos while maintaining the integrity of my channel. Don't blame me, blame the people who made the rules and those who run Youtube. Anyway, enjoy the walkthrough ! Danny Rulez !

Heres World L by Mariovariable3410, the same guy who made World K that Ive last played. This is a much harder world than the last one : its a lot longer for one thing, and secondly, there are more enemies and instant death hazards. One level in particular that has a big problem is the last castle : when you get to it, before the level actually starting, the death sequence plays in a random part of the level, and you lose a life without you actually doing anything. Only after that you can control Mario and actually play the level. You have no control over it, so imagine everybodys surprise when you reach the castle and drop dead before you even have a chance to figure out what happened. Whats worse is that if youre down to your last life, youll get a game over before you even get a chance to try the castle, so if you have 0 lives left, dont even bother playing any longer : just stop wherever you are and hit reset, because the game is technically over. ! Its cheap bullshit at its finest, that only makes the average player lose their mind ! Even after the fact, it takes all day to get through the castle, because just like world 8-3 in the original game, its one of those castles where lava will rise from the bottom and you have to jump your way to the top - one wrong move and youre fried ! What makes this more difficult than 8-3 is that you only get one chance to make some of the jumps : some platforms will fall when you jump on them, so if you miss a ledge, the platform wont come back and youre stranded, so it takes perfect accuracy and nerves of steel to beat this one. If the glitch that costs you a life was eliminated, the world wouldnt be so hard once you got used to it, it just takes practice thats all. ![Mario Forever - The Minus Worlds 1.8 by Crist1919 Walkthrough (Part 1) [HD]
Heres a newly released version of The Minus Worlds by Crist1919. I already praised this one for being the best Mario Forever fan game to date, so I was positively delighted when Crist told me that he made yet another upgrade and wanted me to play it here on DGV. I decided to split this one up into parts, since theyre easier to work with and I can produce more clips quicker. Enjoy.

Heres another game in the Softendo family: New Super Mario Forever. As you may have guessed from the title, its similar to New Super Mario Bros on the Wii, though I wouldnt call it a rip-off since it doesnt actually copy anything directly from the Wii game - it borrows the concept, enemies and powerups and reuses them in its own way to create something new. The overall concept is the same as Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES: same map format with 8 different worlds and 7 sons of Bowser you have to defeat, same enemies and even some levels look the same, so youll feel at home with this one. Graphically speaking, the game is decent, considering what it is, though the animations of Mario walking and jumping look a bit off and I noticed a lot of people making fun of this in the comments. Gameplay-wise, one thing I can say I dont like is how the screen takes too long to pan when you jump to the top - it freezes for about 1 second before it finally reorients. This could cost you a hit if you jump right into an enemy that you cant see - it should adjust instantly to keep Mario in the middle of the screen at all time. The music and sounds are very good as well: you get musical variety and the quality of the soundtracks is awesome. One thing they decided to change and I dont really appreciate is the sounds Mario makes when jumping (stuff like Ah ! Yeah ! HoUh !). Since its a platform game where you jump a lot, they tend to get irritating after a while and you cant turn them off - you have to turn off all other sound effects too. I would have much preferred the traditional jump sound effects of all the other games, or at least have an option to toggle the voice on and off, independent of the sound effects. Another thing that ruins what would otherwise be a great Mario fan game is the overwhelming amount of spelling and grammar errors - thought NES games were bad at this when they got ported from their japanese versions ? Well, look again: the word order is incorrect and many words are misspelled, making the messages incoherent and even confusing to read, especially in the early levels where youre given instructions on how to perform certain moves - I actually had to read a message twice before figuring out how to do the wall jump. Im aware the maker of the game is not a native English speaker, but couldnt he at least get someone to proof-read the game before releasing it to the public ? I kinda smell Google Translate here ! To be perfectly fair its not too much of a problem as far as playability is concerned, because its the gameplay that counts in Mario games and not so much the dialogues. If it were an RPG like Castlevania where you had to rely on clues and dialogues to progress, then yes, it would be a big issue indeed, but in an action-oriented game like this, we can let it slide. Other than that, theres no need to go into great detail about the game since its self explanatory - if you dont know how to play a Mario game then you shouldnt call yourself a gamer ! Aside from the F it gets in grammar, the game gets an overall A from Daniels Game Vault. Softendo pretty much did everything they could to recreate a Wii game on the PC, which is no easy task considering how complex it is, so for that I can only applaud them ! Well done ! This is an extra level that comes with World PS. Its a single level so far, but the creator told me that hes planning to expand the whole game, including this world, so Im really looking forward to that, since both the main game and this level are very well done and really enjoyable to play (despite the occasional failures which are unavoidable, no matter how great the game is).
