One leaf blocked the sunlight landing on another leaf. This is pretty neat. A natural contact print.

A contact print is a method of printing photos in a darkroom without an enlarger. The object is placed directly onto the photo paper, then the paper is exposed to light.
In this case, sunlight must have an effect on the pigmentation in the changing autumn colours. One leaf was on top of the other. This allowed for the creation of a sharp edge along where one leaf blocked the light falling on the leaf below it. A natural contact print on a leaf. Neat!
