Summer Wells, a five-year-old girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, disappeared from her family’s home in the rural Beech Creek community of Hawkins County near Rogersville, Tennessee, on the evening of June 15, 2021.
She was last reported seen by her mother after helping plant flowers and going inside (or to the basement) to play; she was described as about 3 feet tall, weighing around 40 pounds, and possibly wearing a pink shirt with gray pants or shorts and barefoot.
An Amber Alert was issued the next day, launching one of the most extensive missing-child investigations in Tennessee history. Hundreds of searchers from dozens of agencies, supported by K-9 units, helicopters, drones, and dive teams, covered thousands of acres of rugged terrain, yet no trace of her was found.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), working with local authorities and the FBI, has received thousands of tips, pursued leads (including a red or maroon Toyota Tacoma seen in the area), conducted follow-up searches years later, and released age-progressed images, but the case remains unsolved with no publicly named suspects or definitive evidence of what happened—whether she wandered off, was abducted, or met another fate. Her parents have maintained she was taken by a stranger; authorities have noted the circumstances are “outside the norm” and that there is no clear evidence of abduction from the home.
