Lannie Chapman, the Salt Lake County Clerk, is our guest speaker for this Summer Forum program. Chapman outlines the responsibilities of her office, which include managing approximately 600,000 active voters and overseeing the logistical and legal aspects of elections in Salt Lake County. She describes the different methods of voting available in Salt Lake County, including mail-in voting, in-person voting, and electronic voting for overseas and military voters, as well as for voters with disabilities. Chapman details the procedures her office uses to ensure election integrity and security, such as signature verification, the use of secure ballot collection processes, and transparency of the counting process.
A Q&A session following Chapman's presentation then covers a broad range of topics related to election processes, voting methods, election security and fraud, accessibility and voter inclusion, and the other complexities of managing elections with the aim of ensuring that all eligible voters can participate securely and confidently in the electoral process.
