Genso Suikoden: Soul Eater is a three volume novelisation of the events of Suikoden I. The novel was written by Hori Shinjiro and it first published in December 1999. This novel is where the name Tir McDohl comes from, the name that the fandom have adopted as his canon name.
The novel retells the story of the game. New scenes were added. More dialogue was added. Some of the games scenes were removed, and other scenes were altered to help the story flow better.
Chapter 3 covers from Tir's arrival on Magician's Island until he returns to Kraze with the Astral Predications. Tir's encounter with Luc on Magician's Island, and his meeting with Kraze upon his return play out differently than they did in the game. Chapter 3 also includes an additional small new scene with Leknaat and Luc that didn't happen in the game.
