I love creating videos that are requested by subscribers! Today I will be sharing a very rare and unique version of the charkha; a tool used to spin cotton. As I started researching the wheel I learned that at the request of a cotton spinner, the Ashford family designed a table top charkha. There were two versions made, the one I am demonstrating with in this video is the "Ashford Accelerated Charka". The two white gears on the opposite side of the quill accelerates the speed the quill as it turns. I did not have to turn the handle very fast at all to get a lot of quill rotation. These wheels were made from 1987-1998, and are a lot of fun!
