The last one of these I did was pants; rushed and under-researched. So heres a much better one.
This video shows an effective way to achieve three things: a low Playing Time, a low Days Passed, and the minimum Game Progress. This video isnt a speed run itself (4.5 hours is about the record, I think), but is geared toward those who want to speed run the game; it shows a good order in which to do the missions, when to make preemptive phone calls, and some techniques for completing some of the missions faster, in order to achieve these three objectives.
This is the PS3 version of the game.
Id like to pay homage to Ben Heins and his guide, Liberty City Minute / Lowest Percentage Guide, available on GameFAQs, for being the inspiration for working on this video.
Playing Time — Achieving a low Playing Time is obvious, and includes cut-scenes and loading screens. It does not include sleeping and Pay n Spray visits, so those can be used to fast-forward game time without penalty.
Days Passed — The number of days passed in game-time. Achieving a low Days Passed is similar to achieving a low Playing Time, but sleeping and Pay n Spray visits add 6 and 3 hours respectively, so should be avoided. This adds to the challenge a fair bit.
Game Progress — Also known as completion percentage. The minimum achievable is 56.51%, which is 88 missions completed (there are 88 mission lines in the contents below; credit to Ben Heins for discovering Luck of the Irish counts as two missions). If going for this, be careful to avoid Stunt Jumps, accidentally shooting / blowing up / otherwise killing pigeons, and Random Characters.
