This is the first in a series of Pen Reports I will be doing throughout 2023 on Student Fountain Pens, including children's pens, student and school pens and beginner level pens. Today's pen is: Pelikan Pelikano [M] which I wrote with all of January and continue to test and write with still.
The video includes a good look at the pen, comparisons with other pens in this category, writing samples on 5 papers: Tomoe River 68 gsm, Rhodia 80 gsm, Pen + Gear Walmart notebook, CVS Caliber paper and Midori paper. I also give my opinions - likes + dislikes as well as my age suggestions for this pen. I am a certified pre-school teacher and I have worked with a lot of 4 year olds - I would say this pen would be appropriate for age 4 and above ... some children require more supervision than others + it has been quite awhile since I taught in a classroom but I do believe this pen is sturdy enough and appropriate for 4+. In a home setting with proper supervision and assistance maybe younger.
