How Do You Get Out of Fight-or-Flight?
In this clip from my monthly conversation with Chef AJ, we answer an important question from the audience:
"What can I do if I feel stuck in fight-or-flight?"
Many people living with chronic illness, histamine intolerance, migraines, autoimmune disease, or persistent anxiety feel like their nervous system is always on high alert. In this video, I explain what's happening in the brain, why your amygdala is trying to protect you, and how chronic stress can disrupt your cortisol response, immune system, and overall health.
One of the most important messages I share is this:
If you are still in a dangerous situation, your first priority is getting to safety. Healing can only begin once you're safe.
But for many people, the danger is no longer happening—the brain just hasn't learned that yet.
One of the first steps toward calming the nervous system is learning to remind yourself:
"Right now, I'm okay."
As you spend more time recognizing the moments when you truly are safe, your brain begins collecting evidence that it doesn't have to stay on high alert all the time. Over time, that can help reduce anxiety and allow your body to shift from fight-or-flight into the "rest and digest" state where healing happens.
This is one of the reasons I teach that recovering from chronic disease isn't just about nutrition. We also have to help the nervous system feel safe enough to heal.
If you'd like to learn my complete nutrition protocol, my online class, 6 Steps to Reversing Disease with Supermarket Foods, is FREE through August 10 at GoodbyeLupus.com.
And if you'd like more support, join me every Wednesday at 12:30 PM Pacific for Wellness Wednesday on YouTube Live, where I answer your questions and provide free coaching.
And join me on Chef AJ's channel, usually on the 4th Monday of the month.
