Lecture 16, by Dr Sourav Das, in the series "Steel Research: A global journey", organised by Adreil Wong, Dominik Dziedzic and Steve Ooi to mark the retirement of Harry Bhadeshia.

Sourav describes how the structure of a carbide-free bainitic steel can be estimated, but that the estimation of complex mechanical properties still relies on a qualitative understanding of the relationship between structure and mechanical behaviour. Although originally intended for automotive applications, he demonstrates that the steel offers considerable wear resistance.
