"I have two chores that I do not want to do myself. One is messy, the other bloody." --Governor Mourel
In both versions the Governor still learns about your chalice theft if you attempt Harris's quest. However, in the Veteran Edition he sends you back to the interrogation chambers if you do not have it anymore and then acts normal out of fear when you manage to come back. Otherwise, he summons an almost endless supply of Acolytes that shoot you dead. In the original Strife this is the default outcome no matter what and thus the whole trap quest should be completely avoided. Harris can still be killed for the loot though.
After most missions you get Stamina and Accuracy upgrades. Stamina upgrades give +10 max health and add more damage to the dagger. Accuracy upgrades lessen the spread of your assault rifle and improve targeting of other weapons.
NPC Score Card: Beldin, Harris, Warden Montag, Judge Wolenick
