This is Karajan's second recording of the "Sacre". . The earlier 1964 version has been criticized by Strawinsky himself: too cultivated. I agree: It is a very romantic, more symphonic but very beautiful reading,But Strawinsky is no Richard Strauss. This 1977 version is totally opposite of the 1964 version, and is excellent.
"Karajan goes a long way towards rebutting Strawinsky's complaints, and the result is superb, above all powerfully dramatic"(Penguin guide).
