Still the best recording of Sibelius' Kullervo. Though Berglund's world premiere recording has something special, it cannot match Paavo Järvi's recording in the many original details in the orchestration. But both are lacking power in the final movement. Vänska's first recording of Kullervo is the most powerful with also a typical Sibelian part 2. But his recording is somewhat uneven: Part 1 and 4 are disappointing . Salonen takes a brisk tempo but has the advantage of the great orchestra and his performance is straightforward with numerous fine touches and also a powerful finale. The choir and the soloists are also excellent. Each part of this symphonic Poem comes over very well, so this is still my favourite....
