The outdoor swimming pool at Stratford Park in Stroud is set to open tomorrow, Saturday.
Officially named Stratford Park Lido following a public consultation in 2017, an army of Stroud District Council staff and volunteers from Friends of Stratford Park Lido has been working hard to get the pool ready for members of the public.
The pool will be open seven days a week, from Noon until 7pm. Daily daytime lane sessions will run from 12pm – 1pm and 6pm – 7pm, with public sessions for all ages and abilities to enjoy the pool, available from 1.15pm – 3.15pm and 3.45pm – 5.45pm.
Early morning swimming sessions will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7am – 9am.
Amy Morris from Friends of Stratford Park Lido told Stroud Times: “We are a group of volunteers in the local area that love the Lido. We love swimming. We love the way it makes us feel, and we join together to support Stroud District Council in helping get it ready for the season, maintaining it through the season and just generally sharing our joy through it with the community to try and get people on board and involved in, in helping us.”
Stroud Urban District Council built the lido in 1937, designed by engineer FS Cutler, for about £20,000. It features a 55 x 18-yard pool fed by spring water, a diving board, art deco fountain, changing rooms. Initially heated before the war, the Lido now operates as a cold-water pool during summer.
