Join us for an informative webinar that focuses on strategies for retrofitting older home exterior walls while addressing concerns about lead paint. We’ll kick off with an introduction to exterior continuous insulation, setting the stage for a detailed examination of innovative solutions. Garrett will share insights from his research on various exterior wall retrofits, highlighting the latest advancements and their practical applications in improving energy efficiency and structural integrity.
The session will also cover the use of exterior spray foam as a key component for effective retrofits, emphasizing its role in air sealing and the distinct advantages it offers over traditional cavity insulation methods. Participants will learn about the increased longevity of structures achieved through proper insulation techniques and how spray foam can effectively encapsulate lead paint, ensuring safety without compromising aesthetics. This webinar is a must-attend for anyone seeking to improve the performance of older homes while addressing potential lead hazards.

Speakers: Garrett Mosiman & Matthew Scherrer
Garrett Mosiman:
Garrett was trained as an architect, but the practice of architecture never quite suited him. Post-graduation, he spent over a decade as an architectural model builder, furniture maker, designer and general contractor. He became curious about building science when he repeatedly found mold and water damage in building assemblies he was opening as a part of renovation activities, which ultimately sent him back to graduate school at the University of Minnesota. He is now a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Sustainable Building Research. He holds a BArch from Rice, and an MS in Architecture from the U of Minn.
Matthew Scherrer:
Matt works For InSoFast LLC, an American based insulation manufacture that provides innovative solutions for framing and insulation systems and is responsible for product development and implementation. He has assisted in the development of the new X-Bracket System, which allows spray foam, blown or batt insulation to be installed as exterior continuous insulation without thermal bridging. He hopes to be able to influence the construction industry to adopt a mindset of building science to improve how homes are built. Prior to InSoFast, he had 11 years of construction industry experience in both the commercial sector and the residential sector. During his time in commercial construction, he assisted in management of over 1.8 billion dollars of project value, including Denver International Airport, The FoundryLine Residential Highrise in downtown Denver, and various healthcare projects with UC Health in Colorado Springs. During his time in residential construction, he worked on home remodels.
