This session will showcase a physical climate risk data tool. How do you know the Risk Factor to make it easy for the built environment to find property-specific risk from environmental threats such as flooding, wildfires, extreme heat, and severe wind, and understand how risks are changing because of a changing environment? First Street Foundation’s mission is to address the asymmetry in access to high-quality climate change data by quantifying and communicating America’s environmental risks so that everyone can make informed decisions for the future. By making environmental risk data accessible and easy to understand, individuals and businesses can prepare for and mitigate risks before they become a reality.

Lessons Learned:

1. Review a physical climate data tool and how it is being leveraged by large and small organizations and government agencies across the United States to understand property-specific hazard risks such as flooding, wildfire, extreme heat, and severe wind. How does this fit into LEED BD+C V4 Prereque LT Floodplain Avoidance?
2. Understand how the climate models are built and what makes this assessment tool different from other physical climate data models. How can it be used for LEED BD+C V4 Prereque LT Floodplain avoidance?
3. Articulate how businesses and individuals can understand a property's risk from a changing environment and begin to take steps to protect their properties.
4. Determine how climate risk fits in the green building certification programs, especially LEED BD+C V4 Prereque LT Floodplain Avoidance.
