This interactive discussion webinar is designed to educate you and your team on residential building energy benchmarking and gather your feedback on benchmarking policies. We will discuss what building energy benchmarking is, how it is used in single-family versus multifamily buildings, and the construction of new versus existing buildings. What are the benefits? What tools are used for this purpose? Policies that exist elsewhere and how they align with green building programs. We are specifically seeking feedback from, and focusing on, agencies, policymakers, and government officials in Michigan; however, this topic is relevant to all interested parties. During the session, we will conduct live surveys with attendees, including soliciting direct feedback and ideas in real-time.

Brett Little
Facilitator This session will be facilitated by Brett Little, Education Manager at the GreenHome Institute. Brett has been educating people on residential green building topics since 2008. He has experience with building benchmarking through home energy score and green building certification programs that require benchmarking. He has also been working with cities and government programs to deliver residential sustainability outcomes for many years.
Kayla Snyder, LFA, EMIT, Program Manager
Kayla (she/her) is the lead for our programs where she focuses on data management, educational events, and assisting local organizations with energy efficiency initiatives. Before joining MiGBC, Kayla performed energy audits, led internal educational sessions to bridge MEP design with energy efficiency, and collaborated with design engineers on reducing energy loads.
Jon Braman, Executive Vice President, Strategic Initiatives
Jon Braman provides technical oversight, team coordination, and assistance with incentives to transform energy analysis into energy savings, creating straightforward ways to communicate complex patterns of building energy use via our EnergyScoreCards benchmarking software, which he helped develop and launch.
Connor Dailey, Energy Coordinator
Connor is a native of Chelsea, Michigan and has lived in Ann Arbor since 2018. He focuses on energy programs in the Office of Sustainability and Innovations. Prior to joining the Office of Sustainability and Innovations, Connor worked in the City’s Parks and Recreation Services and has a background in the food service and event industries. Connor has a BA in International Relations from Grand Valley State University. In his free time, he enjoys cycling and disc golfing when not cooking and baking.
Jacob Serfling
Jacob Serfling is the Director of Policy & Projects for the Midwest Building Decarbonization Coalition. Based in Des Moines, IA, Jacob brought over a decade of experience in commercial HVAC design and energy efficiency when he joined Midwest BDC in 2021, and is still a licensed PE in the State of Iowa. At Midwest BDC he helps steer the coalition's advocacy on topics ranging from Affordable Housing Energy Burden to Community Geothermal Infrastructure. In addition to his professional experience, he has previously served on the USGBC-Iowa board in various roles, helped with the Iowa Association for Energy Efficiency's programming committee, and worked with the City of Des Moines Energy Benchmarking Ordinance Task Force.
