A native of Roxbury and a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Ekua Holmes has devoted her practice to sustaining contemporary Black Art traditions in Boston—as an artist, curator of exhibitions, and an active member of Boston’s art community.

For the MFA's 2020 Juneteenth community celebration, she chose to read Angela Joy’s “Black Is a Rainbow Color,” a book for which she created the illustrations.
