Storms and tornadoes killed at least 6 people in Tennessee on December 9. The storms left dozens more residents injured and thousands displaced or without power. As of December 11, more than 17,000 homes and businesses were still without electricity. Jimmie Edwards, the director of middle Tennessee's Montgomery County emergency services, told CNN, 'We have a lot of families who are suffering and our hearts are especially heavy with those that have lost some and certainly with those that have lost (it) all.'
While tornadoes are a natural phenomenon, research increasingly suggests that the warming temperatures caused by the climate crisis are creating changes to tornadoes, like larger outbreaks and a possible eastward shift in where storms are starting.
