Learn to take up more space!
Practically, how do you do this?
1. Vocal presence
2. Physical presence
To increase your vocal presence, practice speaking with more volume and end your sentences on a lower pitch. This creates authority in the way you speak and makes it harder for you to ignore.
And secondly, to improve physical presence, don't be afraid to use larger gestures and take up more physical space when you communicate. If it's appropriate, stand! This automatically gives you the room and attention in most scenarios.
This is why I believe communication skills is so critical. Because you can be highly intelligent and have great ideas, but if you don't learn how to create space for yourself to be heard, your brilliance remains hidden.
