Carl Czerny’s Etude Op. 299 No. 21 may look like another five-finger exercise. But underneath its apparent simplicity lies an astonishing amount of piano technique.
In this video, I explore how Czerny combines five-finger patterns, hand position, octave jumps, hidden melodic lines, articulation and relaxation — all without relying on the pedal. And, as always with Op. 299, tempo changes everything.
