This is my performance of Schubert's Standchen for solo classical guitar. This performance was a part of my first Masters recital.

Franz Schubert was a German romantic composer. Today he is most remembered for his lied or songs of which he wrote over 600. Ständchen is one of my personal favorites of Schubert’s songs. It was originally composed for solo voice and piano and has since been arranged for solo piano and now solo guitar by J.K. Mertz. It is also often seen under different titles such as Serenade or Hark, Hark the Lark. This song was one of that last that Schubert ever wrote and was published posthumulously in the Song Cycle Schwanengesang. The song itself was based on a poem by Rellstab and delves masterfully through the emotions of melancholy and hope exploring a man’s yearning for the woman he loves.
