One of our resident cownose rays, Longhorn, recently received an offsite CT scan at BayCare's Morton Plant Hospital. This advanced imaging scan helped confirm our veterinary team’s initial findings and provided more detail for his treatment plan.
Longhorn had an abnormal finding after our veterinary team conducted a routine ultrasound exam at Clearwater Marine Aquarium a few months ago. A mass associated with the liver and gallbladder was discovered and appeared to be growing, so a CT scan was needed to confirm the location with more detail.
The stingray was carefully transported from CMA to BayCare’s Morton Plant Hospital by our expert team, who monitored him and ensured his wellbeing throughout the process. The CT scan produced a 3D picture that allows our veterinary team to determine if they can safely remove the mass and make surgical plans if needed.
The ability to take our animals offsite for these imaging scans elevates the level of care we can provide for our animals, and CMA is very grateful for our partnership with BayCare and Morton Plant Hospital.
