I understand these video clips of North Coronado Island viewed from the Shelter Island boat ramp are boring. I’m not exactly trying to build an audience here. I have given some thought to collecting these shots in varying conditions throughout the season of good visibility, before marine layer haze hides the islands back behind the veil in Spring.

$Comparing Flat and Globe Models to Reality I manually modeled the Provence Cross to Canigou observation for both a globe earth and a flat earth to compare with the actual images. Ive be asking flat earthers in the comments section of previous videos for specifics regarding location of eye-level, angles, distances if we assume the earth is flat and have not been able to extract any specific, quantified values. So Ive done it myself and am presenting it in this video. Ive used Walter Bislins application to help visualize the origination of mountain summit, distance shoreline, horizon and near coastline smokestacks. See http://walter.bislins.ch/CurveCalc He has both globe earth and flat earth models. This comparison intentionally holds off on applying refraction or other optical factors than may alter the model. This is strictly a basic foundation applying only geometry and the principles of perspective. Its a starting point from which any optical or atmospheric adjustments can be made. But youll see that the flat earth model has a larger gap to adjust for than does the globe earth model. The globe earth model need just apply a standard atmospheric refraction adjustment and it matches the observed image capture closely. While there is a litany of claims for adjusting the flat earth model based on optical considerations, no method or technique has yet been offered. $One from the Archives These are stills from video shot in 2019. Location was La Jolla, CA and the target was the former Encina NRG smokestack in Carlsbad, CA. (The smokestack was demolished in 2021, taking away one of my favorite coastal targets forever.) Any examples of purported obscuring by a water horizon are inevitably countered as being the result of mirage and/or compression due to refraction. This is probably one of best examples of obscuring at the horizon that I have, but there was distortion of the image where the water meets the land that includes a band of mirage. The question I always have is how can the presence of mirage be the alibi for obscuring when the mirage occupies less of the field of view than what appears to be obscured?
