What’s scarier than a Home Owners Association (HOA)?
Try one with a fog machine, a clipboard and Halloween into the mix.
Welcome back to Evergreen Lane, except this time, it’s EverSCREAM Lane and yes, the neighborhood HOA is behind it. Hallmark’s 'Haul Out' franchise takes a turn toward the spooky (but still sparkly) in its third installment, 'Haul Out the Halloween', premiering Saturday, October 11, 2025. And leading the charge is the idiosyncratic Ned played by Stephen Tobolowsky, the man, the myth, the municipal code enforcer.
If you’ve followed the 'Haul Out' series, you already know Ned isn’t exactly the guy you’d expect to champion haunted house hijinks or carnival chaos. Yes, that Ned. The man who shockingly sways the Batman vs. Spider-Man debate (spoiler: I agreed with him), casually drops a story involving WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker (yes, that Undertaker), and, surprisingly, we find himself in a romantic interlude. Tobolowsky steals every scene with a wink and a wisecrack as Evergreen Lane is going all-in on Halloween and yes, Ned has officially become a Hallmark Hunk, and frankly, I'm all for it.
Thanks to new neighbors Marvin and Luna, played by real-life couple Daniel Kountz and Kimberly J. Brown. (Halloweentown); the couple moves in with a marvelously macabre outlook and a fully loaded trunk of Halloween spirit, igniting the HOA’s latest project: EverSCREAM Lane. The idea? Transform the neighborhood into a fright-filled fundraiser for a local charity. Naturally, chaos (and candy) ensues.
Emily (Lacey Chabert), Jared (Bradley Rose), and the rest of the street jump into planning spooky contests, over-the-top décor and a ghoulishly fun carnival. Meanwhile, Pamela (Melissa Peterman), Mary Louise (Ellen Travolta) and yes, Ned, find themselves navigating haunted hallows, misbehaving mummies and of course a little romance along the way. It wouldn’t be Hallmark without a heartfelt thread as this time, Emily reconnects with the Halloween joy she once shared with her late grandmother.
But back to Ned. Who would’ve thought the same man who once threatened to fine his neighbor over inflatables would end up leading the charge for community ghouls and good times? He’s still might behanding out citations, but now with candy attached.
I sat down with the legendary Tobolowsky to talk all things 'Haul Out', Halloween, and HOA horror stories. From how he channels Ned’s oddball earnestness to becoming the Lane's Lothario, he gives us all the tricks, all the treats and a few excellent one-liners along the way.
Grab your flashlight. This Halloween, Evergreen Lane is handing out more than just candy and Ned is the guy you want on your side when the skeletons come out…let’s get haunted.
